The Passover.

At its height the population of Jerusalem seldom went above 100,000 but every Jew within 15 years of age and 70 was expected to come to Jerusalem for The Passover wherever in the world they lived at least once in their lifetime and all men over 15 who lived within 20 miles of Jerusalem were expected to attend The Passover every year. From the records the year that Jesus was crucified over 250,000 lambs were sacrificed and as the recommended number of each household were at least 4 to consume the paschal lamb it is presumed that at least 1 million people would have thronged the city. Considering the fact that the walls in circumference were less than 3 miles and this enclosed 300 acres it would have been a dusty place during Passover. Because the city was half a mile into the sky left it somewhat cooler. The feast of Passover was the opportunity to celebrate the greatest event of the Jewish nation. The Passover celebrated the passing over of the Angel of death over the land of Egypt where he slain the first born of male of humans and animals of all those who did not have the mark of the blood of the lamb on the doorposts. The first born of the Pharaoh was slain and this caused the child’s father such grief that he expelled the Jews from his territory lest they be the cause of greater tragedies.
