Puritanism:
Puritanism was a
reform movement within the Protestant Church in England that sought to purify
the Church from Roman Catholic practices and influences. Many of their group
decided to emigrate to U.S.A. so that they could practice their beliefs. These
members frowned upon the celebration of Christmas because of all the
external-Christmas trees, crib scenes, decoration and gift giving which they felt were
born of pagan customs rather than rooted in Scripture. In fact the puritas in Massachusetts colony actually outlawed
Christmas. From 1659-1681 anyone caught celebrating Christmas in the colony
would be fined 5 schillings.

remembrance.
For those who have children/young adults who will be living
abroad this Christmas, you can write their name on the gift
tag and hang it on the
branch. In this way they can be present to you
during the Christmas season and they
will know we are all thinking of them.

from the word. sprung in completeness where his

My God loves me, His love will never end. His gentle hand he stretches over
He rests within my heart
for my God me, Though storm-clouds threaten

He comes to me in sharing bread and wine
He brings me life that will reach past the
end of time.
