Christian Persecutions.

During the early years of the Christian persecutions when people were given serious penances which were considered to be almost impossible to complete, a custom arose whereby a Christian could ask a condemned Christian to take on the sinners guilt as part of the martyr's suffering and death. When the martyr accepted the burthen the repentant sinner would bring a note signed by the martyr and this note was presented to the bishop and he, on behalf of the condemned martyr would release the sinner from the heavy penance. This was the origin of what has become known as Indulgences or as these were originally known; letters of Christian love.

                                  (Communion) "The Cloud's Veil"

Even though the rain hides the stars                                   Bright the stars at night

even though the mist swirls the hills,                                   that mirror heaven's way to you.

even when the dark clouds veil the sky                                               Bright the stars in light where dwell

hearts are just the same filled with joy at                  teacher, and with Joseph at your side

such a vision, as we praise your name.                         and I see the Lamb of God, on the altar

Golden Rose, Queen of Ireland, all my cares               glorified. Golden Rose Queen of Ireland

and troubles cease as we kneel with love                  all my cares and trouble cease as we
