St. Patrick:

Before the arrival of St. Patrick, the 21st June was a big pagan festival and it

was celebrated in style in our county because the second shrine of significance in

all of Ireland was at Magh Sleacht which means "the plain of prostrations" and

was in the parish of Templeport. At this time our pagan forefathers assumed the

Gods to be revealed in the sun, moon and stars, and the anger of these Gods

occasionally manifested in thunder and lighting and this God, the God of thunder

was Crom cruach and celebrations began on the summer solstice June 21st coming

to a high point in the first days of August (Lughnasa). Unfortunately for some,

human sacrifices were offered to Crom, adults and children. When St. Patrick

had broken the power of the "Druids" at Tara the principal pagan shrine he

destroyed the shrine of Crom putting an end to the barbaric practice of human

sacrifice.

Hymn “Peace is Flowing”.

Peace is flowing like a river;                     His Love is flowing like a river,

Flowing out through you and me,                Flowing out through you and me,

Flowing out into the desert,                     Flowing out into the desert,

Setting all the captives free.                   Setting all the captives free.

Offertory:

Be still for the presence of the Lord.       Be still for the glory of the Lord

The Holy One is here.                             Is shining all around.

Come bow before Him now                        He burns with holy fire.

With reverence and fear.                                    With splendor he is crowned.

In him no sin is found.                              How awesome is the sight.

We stand on holy ground.                         Our radiant King of light.

Be still for the presence of the Lord       Be still the glory of the Lord

The Holy one is here                               Is shining all around..

Communion:

This is the day, this is the day.                This is the day that the Lord has made.

That the Lord has made,                         I will rejoice and be glad in it.

That the Lord has made.                             This is the day, this is the day.

I will rejoice, I will rejoice,                        That the Lord has made.

And be glad in it, and be glad in it.

Hymn

I will never forget you my people.             I will not leave you orphaned.

I have carved you on the palm of my hand. I will never forget my own.

I will never forget you.

Lay your hands:

Lay your hands gently upon us,                    You were sent to free the broken hearted.

Let their touch render your peace,           You were sent to give sight to the blind.

Let them bring your forgiveness and         You desire to heal all our illness.

healing,  Lay your hands gently                  Lay your hands, gently lay your hands.

                                              Lay your hands. (x2)
