Saint Nicholas Feast Day 6th December.

Say Saint Nicholas fast enough and often enough and you might hear yourself say

Santa Claus. He was born in Turkey in the year 300 and died on the  6th December

345 and so we celebrate his feast day on the 6th December each year. He has

become the patron saint of prisoners, sailors and children.  His association with children is connected with the case of a man who planned to sell his three daughters

into prostitution because he was unable to provide dowries for them. Nicholas heard

about the man’s predicament, he tossed a little bag of gold into the window of the

man’s house on three different nights and this enabled the man to provide dowries

for his three daughters. From this, legend arose the custom of giving gifts secretly

to children. St. Nicholas became very popular especially in England where in the 13th &

14th Century 400 churches were dedicated to him.

Morning has broken

Morning has broken like the first morning,             Sweet the rain's new fall sunlit

blackbird has spoken like the first bird.                from heaven, like the first dew fall

Praise for the singing! Praise for the                    on the first grass. Praise for the

morning! Praise for them, springing fresh               sweetness of the wet garden ,

from the word.                                                   sprung in completeness where his

                                                        feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight, Mine is the morning

born of the one light Eden saw play

Praise with elation, praise every morning

God's re-creation of the new day.

My God Loves Me.

My God loves  me, His love will never end.              His gentle hand he stretches over

He rests within my heart for my God                    me, Though storm-clouds threaten

loves me.                                                           the day he will set me free.

He comes to me in sharing bread and wine

He brings me life that will reach past the

                        end of time.

O Come Emmanuel:

O Come, O come, Emmanuel, to free                      O royal branch of Jess's tree,

your captive Israel that mourns in                        Redeem us all from tyranny;

lonely exile here, Until the Son of God                  From pain of hell your people free,

appear. Rejoice, rejoice, O Israel . To                   and over death win victory.

you shall come Emmanuel.
